Trump's Nazi Dinner Could Force GOP to Distance Itself, Twitter Treats
Anti-Semitism Buries GOP Candidates
Trump has serious reasons to worry that this crisis is different.
Yes, we are all too well aware of the fact that Trump has been pronounced politically dead since he came down the escalator and called immigrants “rapists and criminals.”

But in nearly every one of Trump’s scandals, whether criminal or behavioral, he has had someone readily available to pass off all blame. Not so here. Were that not enough, the GOP is dwindling in numbers precisely because it is increasingly and openly embracing racism and anti-Semitism.
As the news of Trump’s dinner with the nation’s most notorious anti-Semite and racist, Nick Fuentes, broke Friday morning, it continued to get worse throughout the day, to the point that, far from a dinner with a total stranger, the Guardian (linked below) said that Trump and Fuentes were “fawning all over each other.” It is likely that Trump found Fuentes to be such a loyal and avid supporter that it made Fuentes irresistible without regard to his background. And that’s not good for Trump’s future. Indeed, it won’t go away. According to The Guardian, Trump World immediately recognized the five-alarm fire Trump created on his own. 'This is a f***ing nightmare,' said one longtime Trump adviser who spoke anonymously.
Yes, it is. And, as said above, Trump has no one to blame but himself and not knowing what he was doing, which sounds absurd and reckless even if true, which it’s almost surely not. Trump grew increasingly desperate as more details emerged and put out two attempts to cover the matter on Truth Social. After a perfunctory first response that didn’t even mention Fuentes other than a “guy he didn’t know,” aides clearly told him that wasn’t enough. Trump tried again, but he has only one defense, and it’s simply not believable:
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was asking me for advice concerning some of his difficulties, in particular having to do with his business. We also discussed, to a lesser extent, politics, where I told him he should definitely not run for President, “any voters you may have should vote for TRUMP.” Anyway, we got along great, he expressed no anti-Semitism, & I appreciated all of the nice things he said about me on “Tucker Carlson.” Why wouldn’t I agree to meet? Also, I didn’t know Nick Fuentes.
Clearly, Trump tried to distract with details about the dinner, everything that was covered saying nothing about Fuentes, and yet the reports are stuffed with specific details about what they discussed. Trump also has a duty, as an ex-president now running for office, to know who he’s associating with and surely would’ve asked during dinner at a minimum. Dinner with “Ye,” who just six weeks ago said he was ready to go “Def-Con 3” on Jews, was reckless enough on its own. Hiding behind, “I was having dinner with Ye and…” isn’t exactly a great defense.
Pennsylvania just had a gubernatorial election in which the Republican, Doug Mastriano, went through his own anti-Semitic accusations and dog whistles. There is a lesson to be learned between the race for the Senate and the governor.
In the Senate race against a hapless Mehmet Oz, John Fetterman won by roughly five percentage points. In the governor’s race, Josh Shapiro beat Mastriano by roughly 16 points. Somewhere in there is direct proof that there is a seven to twelve-point penalty for anti-Semitism (which goes hand in hand with racism.) How does the GOP not distance itself from Trump over this dinner? For once, staying silent is the only choice, and it damn sure isn’t a good one unless they want to condemn the dinner, which - again, would be a first.
No, Trump’s biggest problem is that this is damned serious. Trump has carried around his own stench of anti-Semitism and racism all along. This is going to become “Exhibit A.” The evidence is solid that anti-Semitism appropriately hurts the GOP badly. Even some MAGA voters have a line. And Trump cannot blame anyone. Saying he didn’t know Fuentes isn’t an excuse. You find out beforehand. Trying to pass it off on Kanye does nothing but admit he had dinner - “to give advice” - to another anti-Semite who has lost sponsorships brands over his own words.
Unlike many other Trump scandals that he bats away as someone else’s fault, this one is going to stick. Joe Biden didn’t force Trump to have dinner with Fuentes.
SATURDAY FUN DAY: BEST OF TWITTER OVER TWO DAYS
The above would seem to be plenty of politics for a holiday Saturday, one during which the Christmas season officially opens. So why spend more time on divisive politics? For the last two days, as I perused Twitter for news, I saved some of the best Tweets I had seen. Many are animal tweets, but perhaps animals help remind us about what’s best about humanity.
Yes, there is a chance the above is a setup. Someone filmed it. Though there are stands for filming, and it wouldn’t be unusual for someone to say, “No, I’m not dealing with it.” I’m a sucker for these.
You don’t see this every day:
In terms of raw power, nature wins every time. When it comes to passive pollutants, that’s on us.
Too cool. Scientists increasingly appreciate the intelligence and consciousness of animals, especially mammals. It is clearly playing and the post above it is clearly sarcastic.
One more? Speaking of the power of nature, heavy surf can be a killer, but it’s nice to have friends drop by.
And Finally: WTF?
