No longer having to line up?
A funny thing happened yesterday on Face the Nation. Rep. Mike Turner (R-IN) got nailed to the wall by Margaret Brennan over Trump’s demand that the Constitution be “terminated” due to… well, nothing. But in Trump’s cold, pitch-black mind, the Twitter dump proved that he was - again - the victim of the most massive injustice since Cain killed the earnest Abel and for that reason, the only option was to… terminate the Constitution.
Brennan said that the “leader” of the GOP primary run just called for the termination of the Constitution and asked how he could defend that. Turner said that “termination of the Constitution violated all their oaths (You think?) and wasn’t an option. The admission was surprisingly easy.
The amazing part is that Turner spent more time arguing that Trump was not the presumptive or “leading candidate” in the GOP primary than he did with the “terminate the Constitution” portion. In other words, Turner preferred to spend his time defending the GOP much more so than defending Donald Trump.
How very interesting. (More Below)
This happened. Elon? No one asked what you think but since you share every thought you have…
I’m sure that Trump will warmly receive the civics lesson and appreciate another perspective. But much more importantly, Elon Musk is now very much a player in MAGA world. After all, this all started with Musk.
It was Musk’s “Great Reveal” on Twitter Friday evening, with Matt Taibi writing about the “suppression” of the Hunter laptop story before the 2020 election - that found no smoking gun at all, according to Fox News’s own Will Cain. They were looking for FBI interference or FBI suppression of the story and found none. But it is weird they were worried about government intrusion since they were talking about October of 2020, and… guess who was in charge of the FBI and government in October of 2020. Yes, Trump and Bill Barr.
To the extent Musk proved anything, He proved that Twitter as a company leaned left and was more willing to suppress Right-Wing stories about HUNTER (Who, it may be valuable to know, was not on the ballot, nor is he president). Well, yes - Twitter was more liberal than, say, Hobby Lobby. But fck it, America, love it or leave it, free speech, freedom, capitalism, Twitter’s actions were no more wrong than oil companies jacking up gas prices before elections with a Democratic incumbent. (They do).
But when Twitter was caught being more liberal than MAGA, it was enough for Trump to declare it the biggest fraud of all time. Drastic fraud called for drastic measures, terminating the Constitution, and probably, “Send money!”
You see where this is going. Sickly, even more so than the Nazi dinner, GOP politicians feel “free” to oppose Trump on terminating the Constitution than anything else to this point. Golf clap.
Follow down, gotta talk McConnell and indictments:
Meanwhile, these two seem to do more following than leading at least with respect to Trump’s call to terminate the Constitution.
From NBC News:
As of Sunday morning, Republican leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California, as well as the Republican National Committee had not publicly commented on Trump’s post. NBC News reached out to spokespeople for McConnell, McCarthy and the RNC for comment Saturday but did not receive any response.
Yes, well - fine. They haven’t faced Margaret Brennan. The same article notes that the Republicans that have faced down interviews can’t be so coy:
Well, obviously, I don’t support that," Rep.-elect Mike Lawler of New York said in an interview on CNN’s "State of the Union."
Obviously.
And then, interestingly, Lawler said:
I think the question for everyone is how we move forward," Lawler said, adding that he thinks Americans are “tired of discussing the grievances of prior elections” and that Trump would be “well-advised to focus on the future, if he is going to run for president again.
Obviously, and apparently, even a newly elected baby GOPer isn’t afraid to tell Trump to put some big boy pants on and stop crying.
And former Pence Chief of Staff Marc Short:
"The president’s remarks, the company he’s keeping, I think is way beyond the fold,” Short said during an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
So, while we haven’t heard from Republican leadership yet, it is just one question away, and they must reject Trump in the same way Musk, Turner. Lawler and Short did.
The GOP is free? Just in time?
In the next two weeks or months, we are likely to see indictments, either out of Georgia, Florida, Washington, or all three. Those indictments are going to be stuffed with more facts than any indictment in history in order to prove why they had to go to this length. When you put “terminate the Constitution, unapologetic anti-Semitism (Trump hasn’t once denounced the beliefs, only that he didn’t know Fuentes was coming), and then indictments packed with facts that will likely shock people, the GOP might finally feel a little… breathing room, you know?
Maybe they can go on those Sunday shows sometime soon and say, “Don who?” Or, “Oh, you mean the former president… no, I don’t support…”
Last thing: Musk bought Twitter to be a player in MAGA world. No, he has not said it, but everything he’s done, including Friday’s stunt, says that’s his plan. And it didn’t take him 24 hours to spank Trump for being such a… baby? Note it’s also Musk’s mistake. He overpromised, underdelivered, bad business.
The party that believes it is the party of freedom might actually soon feel quite a bit more freedom. And that is very bad news for “the former president.”
