Dangerous and Dark: Dilbert Creator's Calm Racist Argument Increasingly Common, and Increasingly Accepted
Anti-Semitism, Racism, LGBTQ Bigotry, Xenophobia... Some Delight
As I have written before, the roots of MAGA-America First (Interchangeable) were about “owning the libs,” in a sense, just angering us. After all that has occurred since 2018, including defeating Trump and possibly holding him accountable, it won’t matter who is on top of the GOP ticket in 2024. The GOP primary will be a contest as to who is ready to punish the libs, not own, to the greatest degree. This last week we saw shockwaves ripple across the country as Dilbert creator Scott Adams set about “punishing” Black Americans and their friends by telling everyone, “Just stay away from them, nothing good can come of it.” But this column isn’t about Adams, who has received more than enough coverage. It is about how the fact that so many defended his comments as a fight against “reverse racism,” and how conservative white Americans are feeling freer to unleash their inner hatred.
Any self-respecting Trump or DeSantis supporter (the two leading candidates) on the Right rejects everything they consider “woke,” which includes everything known as “DEI,” diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. The only logical inference is that the Right wants to reject everything “woke,” in favor of homogeneity, inequity, and exclusiveness.
To that end, Adams must have felt “freer,” to discuss his views on race calmly. His message to white people was simple. One-half of Black Americans say they are “not okay” with white people. That makes them a hate group. His advice? Stay as far away from Black Americans as possible. Just stay away.
