Bannon Says 35% of Voters Want Election Overturned as if It Matters: It Matters Far More than He Knows
"A Republic, if you can keep it."
As Yoda might say; “Break me a fcking give.” Seriously, Steve?
I kid, I kid, there is nothing serious about Steve Bannon with the possible exception that on or about January 6th, 2021, the suspect committed a serious crime.
Evidently, we are all supposed to be breathless over the fact that 35% of registered voters want the 2020 election overturned. Given the fact that 30% of registered MAGA voters are probably opposed to elections altogether at this point, we cannot say that this stat gives us pause, or at least not the pause Steven intends. (Much more below)
Perhaps Bannon should have polled registered voters in 2016 and asked if they wanted the election overturned, what with Russian interference and all? I suspect we could beat that 37% number by at least 14 points.
In all seriousness, a seriousness that Bannon doesn’t deserve, this whole discussion, stat included, represents the greatest threat to the country today. The Founders went out of their way and through all the trouble to create this whole “self-government” in order for us to govern ourselves. We do that by voting for the people we want in government.
Hold up for just a second in case I forget: Fck you, Steve.
Where were we? Oh, yeah. Of course, we’ve never been perfect in “governing ourselves” and especially with elections. We had to change the rules to allow men that don’t own real property to vote, we had to change the rules to allow black people to vote, women, people 18 years or older… it was never great, but it was better than most.
But the MAGAs now truly no longer care about self-government or at least government by people unlike themselves. It is almost as if they believe they have a God-given right to rule… no, it’s not even “almost as if.”
Now, try to imagine an election from now until maybe… 2042, an election (President, Senator, Governor, whatever), in which the Democrat narrowly beats the Conservatives and the losing conservatives don’t scream that it was rigged, unfair, all that. Is it imaginable that they accept it as a just, fair, and earned conclusion? Will we ever see a Republican call the Democrat on the night of the election and congratulate him or her again? Very tough to see, isn’t it?
We will be lucky if they accept the results at all. January 6th might have just been an opening act, a prelude to what’s to come. The fact that DOJ seems to be doing less than we on the left do as a community is an ominous sign. If the Right is allowed to continue to delegitimize the vote, recount until they like the results, refuse to investigate attempts to overthrow the government…. Well, we might as well call ourselves “The North American State of Russia,” or - because we have more money and a cooler military, call Russia the 51st state. You know, the one that breaks the ties?
Kinda ironic that this sort of fits what Putin seemed to have in mind all along, doesn’t it? So Steve did get it right. It is damned important that 35% of registered voters want the election “overturned.” Whoa, and consider this. They probably didn’t even count a guy with an office on the Volga River and a keen interest in delegitimizing our elections, too.

I remain in beta version trying to figure this Substack thing out (It’s harder than it should be), and there may be a name change in the near future. I beg you all to leave comments below. Building up a community is one of the primary purposes of this endeavor and I will be an active and reliably annoying participant.
I'm writing a comment, damn it. Tell me I'm wrong above. Seriously, I want to know where and when I'm wrong. Or right.
