TGIF Grabbag: Intra-Party GOP Civil War, $100 Trump Christmas Stockings, Fox Fancy Edits, Friday Pick Six
Everything Trump touches dies.
Kevin McCarthy may learn this unneeded lesson if the GOP wins in the House in 2022 as is the historical pattern and in this environment in particular (MAGA rage). He may not be the party leader when it comes time to name the speaker.
Why?
Because McCarthy must at all costs remain loyal to Trump. And “loyal” has never been a strong enough word. When you and I use the word loyal, it means we’ll be there for each other in bad times. With Trump, it means, “You do as I command, when I command it, and no questions asked.” McCarthy got a rocky start to the 2022 election cycle, what with a screaming four letter phone call with Trump during the insurrection/attempted coup, blaming it all upon Trump a day later, and then spending a month in Trump jail before going to Mar-a-Lago and promising that it will never happen again.
And so it hasn’t. McCarthy hasn’t crossed Trump once and now it’s costing him with the moderates in the GOP House:
His decision to visit Trump in Florida three weeks after Jan. 6 alienated some GOP members who'd hoped the ex-president's power would wane. Since then, a small but potentially pivotal clutch of centrists has privately vented about feeling swept to the side following the deadly siege."
Interesting. Who knew? “Moderate GOPs in the House?” Are they a protected species? In the southeast they have these things called “Gopher tortoises” and they are so endangered that it’s a felony to touch one. Felony. Maybe something similar should be put in place for GOP moderates? Give them their own habitat, let them mate and reproduce (good luck, guys!), make every effort to allow them to thrive. Nancy, Chuck, and Joe might want to look at adding a new species to the list. I guarantee there are more gopher tortoises than moderates in the GOP House because when I lived in the country, I don’t know how many I moved to safety… I left totally alone, never touched them, I just built dog-proof safe enclaves for them.
GET YOUR TRUMP STOCKING NOW, ONE DAY SALE, GET IT FOR ONLY 2-TIMES THE PRICE!
Isn’t there a rule that the turkey dishes have to be done and all the football watched before one can put up Christmas stockings? ‘Pretty sure there is.
On another Christmas stocking matter, it’s not a rule, so much as a symptom. One should not have anything political on their Christmas stockings.
But these people?
Does she mean they are $100? Probably. Anyone sick enough to want a Trump stocking would gladly pay $100 for it. But I would bet they come with one of those things you feed cash? And only accepts $100 bills, and must be returned no later than January 5th or you must pay a late fee of $100 a day.
FOX NEWS USES FANCY EDITING TO TURN JOE BIDEN INTO A RACIST
Joe Biden: Racist, according to Fox News, home of Tucker Carlson’s entire staff. Except they had to do some pretty clever editing to make their case. Rachel Campos-Duffy, a woman with no discernable talent other than to sit and look kinda pretty, played a portion of Biden’s remarks yesterday.
Rachel Campos-Duffy said“President Biden is facing backlash for… they played a clip:
“I have adopted the attitude of the great Negro at the time pitcher, name was Satchel Paige.”
What Biden actually said:
“I’ve adopted the attitude of the great Negro — at the time, pitcher in the Negro Leagues — went on to become a great pitcher in the pros — in the Major League Baseball after Jackie Robinson. His name was Satchel Paige.”
Joe Biden has a stutter. He clearly was trying to say, “I’ve adopted the attitude of the great Negro League pitcher Satchel Paige.” He knew his stutter sounded bad and we on to explain the “at the time, Negro Leagues…
But that’s enough for Fox. If that’s what they gotta do as “backlash” due to their own edits against Biden for racism when their guy was defending cops using deadly force against unarmed black men and, again, Tucker’s staff, we’re in good shape.

Random Thoughts:
If you are going to live in the deep red south (DEEP), along the coast, make sure you don’t miss November through February, when you’ll appreciate it the most.
It will be interesting to see what the infrastructure bill has in it with respect to water and the west. I highly recommend “Cadillac Desert” a book that will ensure that you never, ever, forget that, with the exception of the rain forests between Northern California and British Columbia, the entire Western United States is a desert, and a lot of people live there, California is the biggest ag state in the country. The drought is secondary to climate change but population crush alone has the system broken. It is already broken. We just won’t feel it for 5-10 yrs. Too many people, not enough water.
Diet Dr. Pepper is highly underrated.
No one who went to a college with a football team cares basketball season until football season is over. Those of us who went to schools that didn’t have football teams know that the college basketball season opened this week and #1 Gonzaga plays #5 Texas Saturday night. I promise to make every effort to not include mention of the #1 Ranked Gonzaga University Bulldogs every Friday.
Go Zags.
I will likely have some kind of dive on Sunday, I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend and thank you for being part of this exciting start-up, we’re growing!
